Pianist

installation performance (2019)
Tomoko Mukaiyama

In collaboration with Maison Hermes le Forum in Tokyo, this project centers on a series of piano performances that was held every day consecutively during a 24-day period in an installation made up of a forest of pianos. The concert is postponed every day by an hour, meaning that the performance can be experienced at every moment of the day. The performance and installation coincide with the first day of spring, functioning as a means of regulating nature and human life.

In this environment, time will always be different and pass slowly. Neither a concert hall, a theater nor a music studio, the art gallery serves as the stage where the pianist intersects with the audience. Visitors will become part of the installation on a deliberately staggered, extraordinary turntable. The performance invites the audience to take part in the adventure as partners in an open-ended, limitless work overflowing with possibilities.
