Celebrating French composer Boulez

Tivoli/Vredenburg in Utrecht is presenting the Boulez Festival, celebrating the 90th birthday of one of the most important living composers of today. Under the direction of Ulrich Pöhl, Ensemble Insomnio and I will be performing Sur Incises. Boulez composed this work in 1996/1998 for three pianos, three harps and three percussion instruments – including the Caribbean steel drum. The music material comes from his piano solo piece Incises, which was commissioned by Luciano Berio and Maurizio Pollini for a piano competition. It is a difficult piece to play, but we very much enjoy experiencing this brilliant music with drive.
